Historical architecture - Churches & chapels

You'll find several churches and chapels around the Lower Moselle that provide an insight into the historical development of the region. The small chapels, which are often situated along the hiking trails, invite you to stop and ponder. At Bleidenberg, you can discover the pilgrimage church of the former Marian pilgrimage site. Today, this pilgrimage site honours the holy trinity. Alternatively, you can visit the Old St. Michael's Church in Alken. A steep, picturesque staircase leads to the church, which is lined with the 14 Stations of the Cross. Through a large iron grate one can see the ossuary located under the church. The Chapel of St. Matthias at Oberburg in Kobern-Gondorf is Oberburg's castle chapel. The building contains late-Romanesque (Romanesque), Gothic and oriental influences. Roused your curiosity?
