Winningen

Pearl of the Moselle with a long history of wine making

Winningen was first officially mentioned in 865. A Roman estate above the town attests to the fact that Winningen was a wine-making region during the Holy Roman Empire.  History and innovation are impressively combined in this beautiful Moselle town. Modernly furnished hotels, guest houses and private rooms as well as outstanding winemakers with wine cellars and restaurants can be found on the narrow, winding streets with their half-timbered buildings. Guests can spend the night on the banks of the Moselle thanks to a camping island. The cultural events throughout the year are just as impressive and plentiful. Winninger Moselfest, Germany's oldest wine festival, and the renowned Winningen art festival are just two mentioned here. A weekly market is held on Winningen market square every Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm.
